The Green Schoolhouse Series held its first volunteer day “Together We Paint” at the site of the inaugural build at Roadrunner Elementary School in Phoenix on Saturday April 28th during the Safari Kick-Off Weekend. With approximately 200 volunteers, the group painted the entire existing 61,788-square-foot school with no-VOC paint provided by Glidden Professional. The existing school will now match the new Safari schoolhouse under construction on the campus. The makeover of Roadrunner Elementary School and the new schoolhouse will transform the campus into an environmentally friendly showcase. It is because of this dedication to sustainability that the school was recently recognized as a “Green Ribbon School” by the U.S. Department of Education.
We will have two more big volunteer days in June and as always, we welcome any skilled volunteers in the area that would like to take part in this historic project, the world’s first LEED Platinum designed schoolhouse built by volunteers!
